Lough Derg 'A' 5 - Rearcross U-11's 2

Rearcross U-11's travelled to Ballina for this league fixture against Lough Derg 'A' and eventually lost out on a 5-2 score line. An entertaining opening half saw end to end play throughout with the home side coming close with a headed effort from a corner kick with just two minutes gone. Cillian Kennedy laid off to Patrick Dawson seconds later with the Lough Derg custodian doing well save at the post. Cathal Kennedy's kick out released Patrick Dawson who popped over the crossbar with a good effort. The visitors hit the front midway through the half when Cillian Kennedy's effort from distance caused problems for the keeper, Patrick Dawson took full advantage to bundle the ball over the line from close range. Cathal Kennedy came to the rescue for Rearcross with the save of the game five minutes before half time after turning a long range pile driver outside the post. Patrick Dawson passed to Cillian Kennedy who let fly, however Lough Derg's custodian Ivar Larkin was equal to effort and made the save. The Lakers were back level on 17 minutes when Dara King broke through the centre before rifling to the back with a fine effort. Rearcross emptied the bench at half time and Colm Lenihan was called in to action straight away with a good block seconds after the re-start. Lough Derg took a fortuitous lead in the 22nd minute when Sam Loughnane's corner kick went all the way to the net. Rearcross were awarded a penalty for a handball infringement, however the Lough Derg net minder made a good block from Cillian Kennedy. Lough Derg counter attacked and added two quick fire goals through Sam Loughnane and Conor Johnson. Rearcross kept battling despite the deficit, however Dara King made it 5-1 to Lough Derg with a well worked goal. Rearcross pulled a goal back when Cathal Kennedy was taken down inside the box, Cathal Kennedy then stepped up to rifle to the corner of the net. Rearcross worked hard to the end and were unlucky not to further reduce the deficit, however it finished 5-2 in favour of the home side. Rearcross turned in a promising performance despite the final score line.
